Will Travel on the Lansdale Doylestown Line Be Affected Today?

The Lansdale Doylestown Line is SEPTA’s second-busiest Regional Rail line with more than 17,000 commuters taking trips on average each weekday in 2019. Spanning over 35 miles and connecting 28 stations, this popular line travels nearly 170 miles over five weeks – perfect for commuters heading to work, school, or exploring Philadelphia’s famed craft brewery scene! Apps such as this one allow passengers to check for service changes prior to travel, and to tap their SEPTA Key on a platform or turnstile validator to open their journey and return later when leaving transit service. If you ride the Lansdale/Doylestown Line this weekend, be aware of some changes due to maintenance. These adjustments are being implemented in preparation for Lansdale Borough’s planned 2024 track layout which aims to expand train tracks while increasing service reliability.

For now, the line will operate under a single-track system with one train an hour running between Center City and Lansdale and another hour later from Center City to Doylestown. Outbound trains may depart earlier from Warminster, Hatboro, Willow Grove stations; Fern Rock Transportation Center Melrose Park Elkins Park stops will stop two to three minutes earlier. Furthermore, trains heading toward Doylestown no longer continue onto Wilmington/Newark Line stations.

While riders may be dismayed about reduced frequency of service, it’s important to remember that Lansdale/Doylestown and Warminster/Glenside lines still run 25% fewer trains than they did at the start of 2020 due to delays caused by weather or police activity as well as ongoing staffing problems and ageing equipment issues.
